What is a Shareholder?

A shareholder is someone who owns at least one share of a company’s stock or mutual fund. Shareholders have certain rights and responsibilities and essentially own the company. They can participate in the distribution of the corporation’s assets and earnings, as well as a percentage of the company’s voting power.
